You Can Help!

SOME Pit! Volunteer opportunities in 2010:
-If you have a very dog-social pit bull, we’d love for you to join
us at one of our table events at local stores.  Meeting well
behaved pit bulls helps to educate the public about the breed
(you’ll be surprised at how many people have never actually
met a pit bull before!) and is key to increasing pit bull
adoptions.  If your dog loves to give kisses to people as well
as other dogs and is well behaved on leash, please contact
us!

-Table Events:  We’re looking for volunteers that aren’t
afraid to talk to the public!  If you’re interested in manning an
educational table on Saturdays at pet stores in Southern
Maine, please contact us for more details.  Note: Attending a
Pit Bull 101 for the Public seminar is required prior to tabling
for SOME Pit!

Stay tuned for more Ambassadog and Shots Fair
volunteer opportunities in the 2nd half of the year!

Local Volunteer opportunities:
Volunteer at your local animal shelter.  Shelters are always in
need of dedicated dog walkers to exercise the dogs as they
wait for new homes.  If you’re willing to take the most
energetic pit bulls for long walks, you’ll quickly find that it’s not
just the dogs who appreciate your hard work, the shelter’s
kennel staff will want to hug you too!

Adopt a pit bull from a shelter or reputable rescue group and
become a breed ambassador.  Train your pit bull to be a
model example of the breed and change public perception of
pit bulls every time you take your well behaved pit bull out for
a stroll.

Foster a pit bull while it waits for a new home.  Contact your
local shelter and find out if they have dogs in need of short or
long term foster care.  Sometimes even a short stay in a
family environment can lower a dog’s stress level.  Some dogs
need the extra training and love to make them more
adoptable. All of the local shelters are in desperate need of
dog-savvy foster homes!  If you are interested in fostering for
SOME Pit!, please contact us.
Our focus is primarily education and training, but we
occasionally foster special dogs in need.

Spay or Neuter your Pit Bull!  If you currently own an intact pit
bull, please run, don’t walk to the nearest vet to get your dog
fixed.  For 10 reasons why you should neuter your pit bulls,
check this out: http://www.pbrc.net/misc/PBRC_speuter.pdf

Donate supplies to your local shelter.  Pit bulls need extra
tough toys and super soft blankets.  Shelters are always in
need of Kongs, Nylabones, towels, blankets, and Gentle
Leaders, to name a few hot items.
