Welcome to Southern Maine Pit Bulls (SOME PIT)!

SOME PIT is a small group of dedicated pit bull advocates working to improve the lives of
pit bulls in Southern Maine.  Through education, adoption assistance, training, and
events, SOME PIT is working within our local community to aid in responsible bully breed
ownership.

Whether you’re new to the breed or looking for assistance with a bully breed you
currently own, you’ve come to the right place!

Check out our Events page to find out where you can meet us next!

The other day I met a woman at a pet store and when I asked her
what kind of dogs she owned, she quietly, with eyes down, said
she had a Lab and a Pit Bull. This lovely middle aged woman,
who I later found out is a nurse, gave me an apologetic look.

“I have a pit bull too!” I practically yelled with a smile. Surprised,
my new friend told me that she usually doesn’t tell people she
has a Pit Bull because she’s tired of her friends and strangers
making hurtful comments about her dog. She told me she’s
embarrassed to tell people she has a Pit Bull, because she
always has to explain why she has a dog that everyone thinks is
dangerous.
