Our Mission
SOME Pit! is an all-volunteer group dedicated to improving the lives of pit bull
type dogs in our community.  SOME Pit! works with Southern Maine residents,
rescues, and animal shelters to reduce the suffering of pit bulls through
awareness events, humane education, breed ambassador programs, private
consultations, and training classes.

SOME Pit! believes that responsible dog ownership is one of the keys to changing
the public’s opinion about pit bulls.  It is our wish that the public, through exposure
to well behaved pit bull ambassadors, will begin to see the truth about these
amazing dogs.

SOME Pit! is working towards opening people’s hearts and minds to pit bulls in our
community in the hope that the positive image of pit bulls will be restored and
they will once again be treasured family pets.
Who we are:
SOME Pit! was originally created in 2008 and has grown to include a small, but
dedicated group of volunteers that organize events and programs.  We're lucky to
have a supportive community of animal advocates and canine ambassadors, like our
pals Tuna and Loki (seen below), that help us spread the good word about living
with pit bull type dogs.

SOME Pit!’s name was inspired by the famous “SOME PIG” spider web in
Charlotte's Web.  Just as Charlotte helped to save Wilbur the pig with her
miraculous web, it is our hope that SOME PIT will help pit bulls by creating a more
understanding and compassionate community.

Greater Portland has teamed up
with the SOME Pit! as a joint
collaboration for increasing
awareness and adoptions of pit
bull dogs in our community.
SOME Pit! is a dedicated

working to improve the lives of
pit bulls in Southern Maine.

We have formed this partnership
based on a foundation of ethics
and high standards and working
together in the best interest of
the breed. SOME Pit! works with
the Animal Refuge League on a
weekly basis to further its
mission and assist the shelter
staff in assessing and training pit
bulls.

As an organization, SOME Pit! is
very reputable and has helped
our staff and adopters in
education, awareness and basic
and advanced training of pit
